InsideNGO Internship Program

The aim of the Internship Program is to engage future non-profit leaders of operations in the research, development and delivery of InsideNGO programs and resources, while exposing them to the international relief and development sector.

Goals

The Internship Program is designed to be an enriching experience for the program participant. The program is designed to accomplish the following:

1. To utilize the intern’s talents, skills, and innovation to advance InsideNGO’s service to its membership;
2. To provide the intern with training and experience in international non-profit operations; and
3. To develop future leaders who will help achieve InsideNGO’s mission of elevating the capacity and excellence of operations in the international relief and development sector.

Overview

InsideNGO’s three primary strategic objectives are:

Lead: InsideNGO membership will lead the international NGO community to effective practices and innovative solutions in operations through vibrant collaboration and shared knowledge.

Equip: InsideNGO will elevate the impact of its member organizations by equipping their operations professionals with effective resources.

Advocate: InsideNGO will represent the international NGO community with an informed, credible, and influential voice on operational issues.

An intern will work closely with a director of program in one of our functional areas of practice:

• Finance, Grants & Contracts
• Human Resources
• Information Systems

InsideNGO interns will enjoy meaningful exposure to our extensive membership of international relief and development organizations whose missions focus on: global health, economic development, emergency relief, environment and human rights. Intern projects might include distilling industry research and poll data into tools and resources for distribution to members, co-authoring articles and white papers, analyzing trends that affect our membership, or responding to member inquiries on topics related to our functional areas of practice. Though interns will provide some clerical program support, the majority of projects assigned involve substantive program administration.

Program Components

Three internships are awarded per session: Finance, Grants & Contracts; Human Resources; and Information Systems. Each internship is customized to meet the skills of the intern, and to accomplish the current program needs during the session, but all internships include the following components:

• Opportunity for co-authorship credit for articles, resources or white papers distributed to our membership;
• One-on-one professional mentorship from an InsideNGO program director;
• Weekly feedback and coaching from project supervisors, and a written performance assessment at the conclusion of the internship;
• Complimentary admission to select InsideNGO workshops or conferences during and within six-months following the internship; and
• An informational interview with one or more operational professionals from our member organizations.
