New Year, New Priorities
As we move into the second week of 2016, InsideNGO wants to wish you a happy and healthy new year. For many of us, January is a month when we set new personal goals and professional objectives, and look for information or strategies to help achieve them. In this issue of The Insider, we'll look at some areas where you, our members, have been telling us you want to move forward in 2016.
Security and Staff Care
While many individuals have made personal health resolutions by now–vowing to lose weight, quit smoking, eat better–in 2016, NGOs should be vowing to pay increased attention to their duty of care obligations. InsideNGO's Director of Member Services Marie McNamee examines the issue of duty of care and highlights why this is of trending importance and how to take steps to address this critical issue.
More than half of the respondents to our 2015 member survey said that professional development–particularly for staff based outside of headquarters–is a strong interest. In 2016, InsideNGO will offer training and professional development opportunities in more than 20 countries. In addition, nearly 100 development professionals are now pursuing the InsideNGO Certificate in USAID Assistance Management Program. Learn more about how this program can help build your–or your colleagues'–expertise in navigating, interpreting, and applying USAID regulations to solve the most common and complex NGO challenges.
Connecting with Peers
Finally, one of the top priorities of our members is connecting with and learning from peers at other organizations. InsideNGO's annual conference is a great venue for making life-long connections. We're looking for development professionals who wish to share their expertise, best practices, and case studies with others at our 2016 Annual Conference. This is a great opportunity to promote the good work that you–and your organization–have been doing. Don't keep your expertise a secret! Come share your knowledge with others.
